I truly enjoyed speaking to director Jeff Nichols for the upcoming film “Loving.” The film portrays events I would potentially not exist without, and the timing of the film’s release could not be more relevant as we draw closer and closer to the US Presidential election. As we discuss in the interview, were it not for the landmark decision in Loving v. Virginia, couples like my parents potentially could have been prevented from marrying. Loving v. Virginia also helped set precedent for Obergefell v. Hodges which led to the fundamental right to marry being granted to same-sex couples.
The film is a powerful reminder of how the decisions the Supreme Court makes affect people’s daily lives, and that our next President will likely choose several of the next Justices.
