KFOG REVIEW: “COCO” & “ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ.”

If there’s one film you see this Thanksgiving, make it Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” and if there’s one you skip/rent/perhaps even never see… make it “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”

Pixar has once again made a beautiful, touching film that anyone of any culture can enjoy. However if you are at all of Mexican heritage, get yourself to a theater now because this one is going to hit you right in the feels. I’m honestly jealous, I’d love to see a positive and beautiful portrayal of my culture on screen the same way “Coco” tackles bringing Mexico to life.

Also shout out to the use of an entirely Hispanic/Latino voice cast, with Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Jamie Camil, Edward James Olmos and more.

Meanwhile in a Denzel Washington showcase, we see Denzel in a slightly toned down role than we have in performances past. It was a refreshing change, but unfortunately the plot makes a mess of the film, rendering it somewhat unwatchable.
