KFOG REVIEW: “DARKEST HOUR” & “DADDY’S HOME 2”

This week brings the Gary Oldman acting extravaganza, “Darkest Hour” starring him (and some very impressive prosthetic makeup) as Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour”. It also brings a review of the unfortunate sequel, “Daddy’s Home 2.”

While I’m not sure if we need another Winston Churchill biopic, there’s no denying Oldman does an impressive job in the film. Joe Wright, period piece mega-fan, brings his attention to detail to this WWII film. The film also stars Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Meanwhile the trash fire that is “Daddy’s Home 2” should be avoided at all costs. Even though I like Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and John Lithgow (who ironically plays Churchill in Netflix’s “The Crown” – of which Season 2 begins the same weekend as “Darkest Hour”) there is no forgiving the casting of Mel Gibson, nor some of the utterly tasteless humor. I beg of studios to also stop with the parent themed Christmas sequels (I’m looking at you as well “A Bad Moms Christmas”
