This week brings "Home Again" or as I call it: "Rich White Lady Problems" and "Beach Rats". "Home Again" is a self indulgent waste of screen time, it's the product of Hallie Meyers-Shyer, who comes from the first family of rom-coms (her mother/the film's producer is Nancy Meyers, and her father is Charles Shyer). This film is what happens when mommy and daddy give baby a bunch of money to go make a mediocre film that's a bad impression of one of theirs. It's a sad suburban fantasy in an LA devoid of people of color. Oh and Reese Witherspoon stars. Meanwhile "Beach Rats" is an interesting expiration of sexuality, the complications of family, and finding oneself.
The latest interviews, reviews, and opinions on film by Dana Han-Klein. Thoughts and opinions are entirely my own and not reflective of my employer or any third parties.
