KFOG REVIEW: “RED SPARROW” & “NOSTALGIA”

Jennifer Lawrence (like… almost ALL of Jennifer Lawrence) is back on the big screen this week in the spy film “Red Sparrow.” Also way too many famous people waste my time in the limited release “Nostalgia.” It’s easy to compare “Red Sparrow” to Charlize Theron’s “Atomic Blonde” (which I loved). In part because there frankly aren’t that many female led spy movies of late. However whilst Theron’s Lorraine Broughton felt empowered, Lawrence’s Dominika Egorova feels at the mercy of every bad decision that went into the film. “Red Sparrow” also stars joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons, Mary-Louise Parker, Ciaran Hinds and Sakina Jaffrey.

Meanwhile, “Nostalgia” boasts an equally epic cast of Bruce Dern, Ellen Burstyn, Jon Hamm, Catherine Keener, John Ortiz, Nick Offerman, and Amber Tamblyn… however it makes me nostalgic for the time in my life before I saw this train wreck.
