KFOG REVIEW: “THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI” & “PADDINGTON 2”

Did “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” deserve to win the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama? Not in my books. I was however pleasantly surprised this week by the charming “Paddington 2.”

Don’t get me wrong, I thought “Three Billboards” was good, I thought Frances McDormand definitely deserved her Golden Globe. However I don’t think Sam Rockwell, or Martin McDonagh were better than their peers in their respective categories.

I was ridiculously and pleasantly surprised by “Paddington 2” (never having seen the original “Paddington”) but I get why at the time this was recorded the film had 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ben Wishaw is the perfect voice of the polite bear. Plus the film features half of the UK, with Hugh Grant, Sally Hawkins, Joanna Lumley, Julie Walters, Brendan Gleeson, Peter Capalid, Hugh Bonneville, Imelda Staunton, Noah Taylor, and Jim Broadbent. I assume there’s a British mandate that requires actors to appear in X number of these Brit produced children’s movies a year, but this is at least a good one.
