KFOG REVIEW: “GET OUT”

Jordan Peele is our cinematic savior with his directorial debut “Get Out” – he wrote and directed a funny, thrilling film that happens to confront race issues and tensions head on while still being entertaining.

The movie isn’t perfect by any means, but in comparison to some of the other films we’ve seen this year, it’s a breath of fresh air.  He balances comedy and suspense so well. I don’t know if I’d actually classify it as a horror film though, it’s certainly scary, but if you’re going in expecting “Saw” or “Nightmare on Elm Street” I think you’ll be surprised.

I was also impressed by the stars, Allison Williams who both embraces and subverts her association with Marnie from HBO’s Girls, and Daniel Kaluuya from Black Mirror and Skins!

This weekend is also the 89th annual Academy Awards, so I give my Oscar pics for the acting categories and best picture. Having been a film fan as long as I have, I expect things to go a certain way (yes we get it, everyone LOVES “La La Land”), though they may not be the nominees I’m personally rooting for.
