Review: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Zombieland: Double Tap

Double sequel week! Both “Maleficent Mistress of Evil”  and “Zombieland: Double Tap” are inferior to their predecessors. This all begs the question: Can we not just stop with the unnecessary sequels please?!

“Maleficent Mistress of Evil” is about on par with the first, meaning mediocre when it’s at its best, awful when it’s at its worst. With wooden acting and a worse plot the film might be fine for those already bought in, but is not for new audiences.

Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, and Warwick Davis star.

“Zombieland: Double Tap” is unfortunately much worse than the first, which is unfortunate since at least the original film was good (vs. “Maleficent”). It feels like a mad-lib done in reverse, where the zombie jokes were written first and the plot loosely filled in later.
Abigail Breslin, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson, and Thomas Middleditch star.
