Review: Mary Poppins Returns, Aquaman, and Bumblebee

Let’s take a look at three of the films vying for your Christmas holiday box office dollars with “Mary Poppins Returns” “Aquaman” and “Bumblebee.”

While Emily Blunt delivers a spoonful of sugar in “Mary Poppins Returns” there’s something still off-putting about the medicine the film delivers. In spite of a supporting cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Ben Whishaw, Julie Walters, and Angela Lansbury the film feels amiss.

Another fish out of water is “Aquaman” which stars Jason Momoa as the titular mer-hero. While Momoa is having a blast the rest of the film drowns in bland. Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Ludi Lin, Yahya Abdul-MateenII and Temura Morrison star. James Wan directs.

Finally there’s the surprisingly heartwarming “Bumblebee” – which keep in mind is heartwarming… for a “Transformers” film … but still is enjoyable. If you’re looking for a blockbuster at Christmas this surprisingly might be worth a watch. Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Dylan O’Brien, Angela Bassett, Justin Theroux, Pamela Adlon, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. star.
