Review: The Current War: Director’s Cut, The Kill Team and Jojo Rabbit

This week has three films about war in one way or another with “The Current War: Director’s Cut” “The Kill Team” and “Jojo Rabbit.”

“The Current War: Director’s Cut” unfortunately doesn’t do anything to distinguish itself from the countless other films we’ve had about the achievements of rich white men. While it boasts an excellent cast of Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Tom Holland, Nicholas Hoult, and Katherine Waterston it fails to illuminate.

“The Kill Team” is about the literal war in Afghanistan, and is based on the documentary of the same name. Director/Writer Dan Krause returns to the subject, but the real material is likely more compelling than this fictionalization. Alexander Skarsgard and Nat Wolff star.

Finally we go back to WWII with “Jojo Rabbit” and madman genius Taika Waititi directing/writing for the screen/playing imaginary Hitler. Yes you heard me. The film is much more than a gimmick though and is well worth a watch.  Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Taika Waititi, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell, and Scarlett Johansson star.
